From September there will be a new Arts Can Do centre running at the Shanghai Jiuqian Nanhui School for Orphanage and Children with Disability.

Features internationally recognised photographer John McRae who exhibits his larger than life images of Australia’s greatest Olympic diver and sportsman of the year, Matt Mitcham. At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the young Australian diver won the gold medal in the 10-metre platform event.

With a new generation of Chinese artists such as Chen Wei (b.1980), we enter a world in which nothing is certain. Although his preferred medium is photography, Chen Wei’s scenarios are constructed like sculptures or theatre sets. These images may be disarmingly low-key but as we keep looking they reveal a broad range of possible meanings.
