In a very troubled world contemporary art might seem to have an uncertain relevance. At ACAF we feel quite the opposite and with this in mind we are again exhibiting at Contemporary Istanbul to bring works of Chinese artists to art enthusiasts in Turkey. Our exhibition ‘Standing Together - Looking Inward’ has its own relevance but it also stands as in solidarity with the arts community of Turkey in what are very troubled times. This is our third time at the Contemporary Istanbul art fair and over the past two exhibitions the artists whose work we have exhibited have been taken to heart by art enthusiasts as well as collectors. Broadening the international awareness and collector base for our artists is one of the main focuses of ACAF. Contemporary Istanbul 2017 runs between 13th and 17th September 2017.
ACAF is excited to announce a renewed community focus for our arts residency program. We are calling for artists with a specific interest in working with communities to contribute to ACAF’s very successful ARTS CAN DO program. ARTS CAN DO is an art based education project which aims to help disadvantaged children reach their full potential by developing life skills and confidence through involvement in art.
ACAF presents a selection of works created by students and artists participating in our ARTS CAN DO program based at the Shanghai Jiu Qian Volunteer Centre Song Jiang District Supplementary School, a special educational school dedicated to working with children with special needs and disability. The exhibition will give visitors an insight into the ARTS CAN DO program and explore the current work of recent ACAF resident artists, Brenton Mark Rossow, Kriss Wong, Mónica Ferreras, Sophie Cape, Zhang Liangxi and Zhang Yi.
ACAF was warmly welcomed at Contemporary Istanbul CI 2016. Over 200,000 people visited ACAF booth, with many, especially the local Istanbul visitors, commenting that ACAF had the one of the best curated shows and a great selection of works. This year’s presentation included works from Ling Jian, Yang Mian, Li Wen Guang, Jia Qiu Yu, Miao Xiao Cun, Song Ling, Leela Schauble and ACAF resident artist Mónica Ferreras De la Maza.
Exciting things have been in the air at ACAF over the past few months. Once again, ACAF has been invited to Contemporary Istanbul CI 2016 to present artists from the ACAF family. It’s been very rewarding working with ACAF Melbourne based curator, Jeremy Gales, on our two exhibits.

This exhibitionby New Zealand/Australian artist Craig Easton takes its cues from western languages of constructivist, minimalist and conceptual art while drawing on thetraditions of the literati gardens of Southern China. In particular heconsiders here the devices of mirrors, screens, frames and pathways as a method for both generating the works and framing a more immersive viewer experience. The resulting exhibition combining abstract painting, video, photography andobject will be presented in the exhibition space of ACAF Art Centre, Shanghaifrom May 21.
March 17th night, Australia China Art Foundation held the vernissage for their new exhibition ‘Between You and Them’ and it opened with a bang. A large gathering occurred, a coming together of like minded people whom all bore a common interest, a true passion for art.
The ACAF CHINA Fellowship Program places Australian and international artists in studios across China, including the rural artistic communities in China and the cosmopolitan art centre of Shanghai.
This exhibition seeks to decode the relationships we have with ourselves, others, the objects around us and the places in which we live, through introspective interpretation and existential reasoning.
