ARTS CAN DO is an art based education project which aims to help disadvantaged children reach their full potential by developing life skills and confidence through involvement in art.
ARTS CAN DO brings artists and art therapists to work with the children of migrant workers in isolated villages and in cities using various mediums to teach children art and using art as therapy to unlock their minds.
Numerous global studies have shown that introducing marginalized children to art allows them to realise the joy of childhood creativity and discovery, to give them confidence so that they can succeed in school education and as adults.
Through our first ARTS CAN DO Center in China’s Shanxi province and the support of our sponsors, art classes taught by international artists in residence were offered every day to children throughout the region, fostering curiosity, exploration and self awareness. ARTS CAN DO is expanding to Shanghai next, in partnership with Jiuqian Migrant School.
This is just the beginning.
We hope to be able to open ARTS CAN DO centers all over China.
ARTS CAN DO is an initiative led by the Australia China Art Foundation (ACAF), which promotes cross-cultural understanding, generates a vital network of creative exchange and builds a reciprocal awareness of each other’s values.
ACAF is an Australian registered not-for-profit organisation.
