Qu Yan, born in Jiangsu, 1955. He graduated from Shanxi University in 1985 with a major in Oil Painting. His practice has explored biological and phrenological classifications of the body for years, and the relationship between our physical selves, who we project, and what we internalize. In 1992, he took up a position with the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, lecturing on Asian Art, and is presently an Art Department professor at Shanxi University. 

Qu Yan has been a key figure in the establishment of the Arts Can Do center in Xucun, owing to tireless efforts reviving the village through his own practice, and initiating a bi-annual international art festival there. He currently lives and works in Beijing.
